The Truth About The Desired Birkin

Wondering why you can’t just walk in and buy a Birkin? Much before the Birkin became a cultural icon, and the Kelly honoured the red carpet, Hermès was a simple harness workshop in Paris. Thierry Hermès founded the company in 1837, producing high quality gear for horses, offering carefully constructed pieces to European royalty. As time passed the brand evolved, moving from saddles to bags, providing leather goods to symbols of status. Thus being the reason why you can’t just walk into a store and buy a Birkin.

A recent viral TikTok video suggested that even devoted Hermés consumers often wait years to be awarded a bag. Claiming that these luxury goods are created in a factory within China for $1,000, which is inaccurate for several reasons. Hermés requires individuals to build a relationship with the brand, this is to ensure exclusivity and offer select bags as a status symbol. The brand is keen on offering, rather than overselling; creating uniqueness and exclusivity.
